In 1427 it seems to form a single council with Ezquíroz; its neighbours were all noblemen, therefore free of lordly burdens. Until the municipal reforms of 1835-1845, it had as its own authority a councillor who was chosen in turn among the houses, apart from the common authorities of the Esteríbar valley.
It has large mansions that sometimes frame the façade with buttresses and semicircular arch doors. The parish church of Santa Lucía, which is shared with Ezkirotz, is of medieval origin but completely transformed in the 16th century. The baptismal font dates back to medieval times.
The patron saint fiestas in honour of Santa Cruz are celebrated on 14 September.
It is a tradition to go on pilgrimage to the hermitage of Santa Lucía or "La Abadía" on 14 September and 13 December.
