Year after year, the different seasons we go through give the natural landscapes that surround us their special nuances, providing them in many occasions with a greater beauty that adds to the attractions that each place already has. Undoubtedly, many of these corners see how their appearance changes radically depending on the time of the year in which we find ourselves, causing waterfalls to sprout where before there was barely a trickle of water or painting the landscape with bright colors.
The white blanket of winter, the vigorous spring and the sunny summer, are eclipsed in a good number of places by the spectacular autumn landscapes that we can find in our forests and mountains. The striking colors of autumn, reddish, yellow and ocher, are one more incentive that encourages us to enjoy nature by organizing an autumn excursion to visit one of these natural areas. A beech forest is usually the first thing that comes to mind when we think of autumn, but oak, linden, poplar, birch, chestnut or walnut trees, among others, are also dressed in the colors of autumn, without forgetting the vines that in autumn paint the fields with bright colors.

The Collados del Asón Natural Park, in Cantabria, is one of the many natural treasures to be found in this autonomous community. Its unique landscape of marked and abrupt relief, of colossal dolines, caves and chasms, as well as whimsical lapiaces or garmas, gives us beautiful landscapes such as the one we find in Collados del Asón or in Portillo de La Sía, being also home to various animal and plant species. Cantabrian holm oak or beech forests, among others, that fit between the steep walls of these mountains allow us to explore them in search of beautiful and hidden corners.

One of the most beautiful places in Soria, a distinction that undoubtedly shares with other corners of this province, is the Natural Park of Sierra de Urbión and Laguna Negra. Here we are surrounded by mysticism and legends, by the emblematic mountains and by dark and beautiful lagoons of glacial origin. A landscape of contrasts, of vertical cliffs preceded by dense pine forests, dotted with huge beech trees that enlarge even more if possible the beauty of this place. It is an experience to be able to walk along the Laguna Negra or climb the walls that border it in search of the nearby mountain peaks.

The slopes of the well-known peak of San Miguel, the Moncayo, roof of the Iberian System, host, specifically on its northern slope, a rich diversity of plant species marked and structured both by the climate and humidity of this slope and by the altitude at which they are located. There are countless routes and trails that allow us to travel through the Natural Park of Moncayo and enjoy hiking and mountain while we cross the oak groves, we enter into lush beech forests and advance under colossal specimens of black pine, always under the watchful eye of the Moncayo.

Autumn paints our forests and mountains with striking colors that leave us in many cases perplexed by so much beauty, but like the beech, oak and so many others, the vineyards also come to add to the impressive spectacle that nature composes at this time of year. The Ebro Valley, as it passes through Alava, is a perfect example, inviting us to stroll among the vineyards that, as if it were a sea, cover with their striking ochre, yellow and reddish colors the fields that extend under the mountains of Sierra Cantabria, in La Rioja Alavesa.

The leafy beech forest of Redes gives its name to one of the magnificent natural parks of the Principality of Asturias. The extensive network of trails that runs through the park will allow us to climb its mountains, enter steep gorges or discover whimsical waterfalls, all of them true natural monuments. And of course we will do it in many cases surrounded by beech and oak forests, chestnut trees and typical pasture fields, which in autumn further enhance the beauty that already have the different places of this Natural Park of Redes.

La Rioja, famous for the quality of its wines, is also a land of mountains and valleys, of well-kept villages that still preserve all their charm, history and traditions, a land of lush forests and capricious rivers. All of them give character to this land full of contrasts, where the wide Ebro Valley gives way to the high mountains of the Sierra of La Demanda in whose foothills we find one of the most extensive beech forests in all of La Rioja, the Beech forest of The Rajao. The Tobía river with its flowing marks the quiet course of this essential route of hiking for autumn in La Rioja.

To speak of autumn in Navarre is to speak of the Irati Forest, of Urbasa-Andía and of the Source of the Urederra or the Enchanted Forest of the Señorío de Bértiz Natural Park, true temples of nature that are visited in autumn by a multitude of people in search of its enchanting landscapes. But Navarra also offers us other paradises such as the ones we can find in the Ultzama Valley, where authentic monumental oak trees await us, such as those of Monumental Robles of Jauntsarats and millenary forests such as the Orgi Forest.

Undoubtedly one of the most important attractions of the Natural Monument of Monte Santiago is the impressive Jump of the Nervión, a waterfall as admirable as it is difficult to contemplate in all its splendor. But the lush beech forests, along with the various vertiginous viewpoints that plunge into the Delika Canyon, where the Nervión flows after its endless fall, offer a more than reasonable compensation for the possible lack of water in the waterfall. If we add to this the special collaboration of autumn, we are facing a fascinating autumn landscape.
Undoubtedly nature offers us throughout the year a spectacle worthy of admiration, a spectacle that in autumn seems to deploy its entire repertoire. Places like the Selva de Oza, the Ordesa Valley, the Tejera Negra beech forest or the Otzarreta beech forest, among many others, are dyed in striking colors as if they wanted to invite us to visit them once again before winter covers them with its white mantle. All of them are places that deserve to be enjoyed, respected and cared for in equal parts, so that year after year we can continue to be surprised by the exhibition that nature gives us in them.
