In the middle of the mountains of Alava, on the border with Navarre, just a stone's throw from another essential place to visit the Izki Natural Park, is the Trail of the Torca. An entertaining hiking route that takes us from the town of Santa Cruz de Campezo to the Torca area. The route runs along the hillside of the mythical Joar, allowing us to put ourselves in the shoes of the pilgrims who follow the course of the Ignatian Way, with whom we will share part of the journey. A route that gives us the opportunity to enjoy the magnificent natural landscape that surrounds it.

We do not leave the mountain of Alava to follow the course of the Sierra Cantabria and approach the foothills of the Sierra of the Toloño where this beautiful path awaits us. The Route of the Water of Berganzo starts from this village to go up the course of the river Inglares, a route that takes us from waterfall to waterfall that this capricious river draws, until the most spectacular of all, the waterfall of Las Herrerías. From here we will return to Berganzo following the course of the old water channel that feeds the hydroelectric power station near Berganzo, a real adventure.

Under the attentive gaze of the imposing Gorbea and not far from the whimsical Sanctuary of Our Lady of Gold, an excursion full of adventure awaits us. Adventures like the one that involves crossing a hanging bridge, Tibetan style, to reach a place of legend. It is in the place known as La Enconada where many years ago a strong tower was built that served as a refuge for Lady Blanca, daughter of the King of Navarre, until she was found by her brother Don Carlos.

We go into the foothills of the Gorbeia Natural Park to visit one of its countless attractions, the Gujuli Waterfall. This spectacular waterfall has nothing to envy to its close famous brother, the Jump of the Nervion. Thanks to the conditioned path that in just a few tens of meters leads us to a viewpoint, visiting Gujuli becomes a magnificent plan to do as a family if we are in this area of Alava.

One of the most popular hiking routes in Alava for children is undoubtedly the one that takes us to the Altube Waterfall. This corner of the Gorbea Natural Park offers us a whimsical waterfall that will delight children and adults alike. As it could not be of another form the legends also accompany to this place, extending this way his interest and the attention that to the smallest it can generate to them if we decide to visit it.

If we are looking for routes that allow us to do them not only on foot but also by bike, the Linear Park of the Nervión is one of the countless green routes that Alava has to offer. This route follows the course of the river Nervión between the towns of Amurrio and Llodio, jumping from side to side of the riverbed thanks to the countless footbridges along the way. Without a doubt an entertaining excursion for the whole family in which to enjoy nature.

We jump to the other end of the province to enter the Aizkorri-Aratz Natural Park. There, in Araia, not far from Salvatierra and the Sorginetxe and Aizkomendi dolmens, the Path to the source of the Zirauntza River awaits us. A magnificent route that takes us through the thick forest that surrounds the river to get close to where it is born. Nature in its purest form, which has been able to make the channels and dams built by man in this beautiful spot its own.

We take another jump, this time to travel to La Rioja Alavesa, specifically to the town of Laguardia. There, its medieval streets, the landscapes painted by the vineyards and the lagoons where countless species of birds live, await us. This green itinerary takes us on a tour of this lagoon complex surrounded by vineyards. We will be able, if we are stealthy, to contemplate the different birds that live there. And of course all this under the imposing gaze of the steep mountains of Sierra Cantabria, while sharing the path with the ancient muleteers who followed the course of the now GR 38 Route of Wine and Fish.
Some quiet walks, other more demanding routes, but all of them ideal itineraries to travel with the family.
