The route of The Xanas follows the narrow path carved into the mountain wall that goes up the stream of Viescas. Many of the hiking routes in Asturias follow old paths that have been used since time immemorial by muleteers, locals and travellers who travelled through these lands. The Route of The Alba in the heart of the Redes Nature Park is a clear example of this. This beautiful itinerary joined and still joins the council of Sobrescobio with the council of Aller. Today it has become one of the most visited hiking routes in the area. Starting from Soto de Agues, it takes us through a narrow gorge, putting us in the shoes of the old muleteers who used to cross these mountains.

This circular route takes us through this area of the Picos de Europa and allows us to enjoy the beautiful panoramic views it offers. It is an uncomplicated route that offers us different alternatives that allow us to vary its layout and adapt it to our tastes, so that we have no excuse that prevents us from visiting the Covadonga Lakes.

We return to the councils that are home to the Route of the Xanas to tell you about another of the incredible itineraries that can be found in Asturias, the Greenway of the Bear Path. The mining past of this land is undeniable and this route is a clear example. The old railway line along which the mineral was extracted has today become an attractive route that reveals dream landscapes. But its attractions do not stop there, they are joined by Paca and Molina, the two bears that live next to the hiking route and that with a bit of luck we will be able to meet in person.
