A short distance from the spectacular Puentedey, one of the beautiful villages that make up the region of Las Merindades and with the permission of the not-so-distant Natural Monument of Ojo Guareña, the surprising Waterfall of La Mea awaits us. Conditioned by its splendour, like so many others, to the intermittent flow of water that flows through it, this waterfall, which is reached following a simple and short trail, offers us, even with hardly any water, the peculiarity of its shapes that add to the beauty of the surrounding environment. A journey among the colossal cliffs that the river has carved with its tireless work.

Under the protection of the Natural Park of the Sickles of the High Ebro and Rudron, disputing our attention with other of the impressive places that compose this park, like for example Orbaneja del Castillo and its surroundings, is the Blue Well. The small town of Covanera is the starting point of the path that takes us to this emergence of water that joins to its characteristic color its great importance, as it is a real jewel for underwater speleology known worldwide and loaded with mysticism and legends that speak of the mysterious characters who inhabit it.

The narrow gorge of La Horadada acts as an insurmountable frontier for another of Burgos' natural treasures, the Mount Obarenes - San Zadornil Natural Park. Undoubtedly there are many routes and paths that we can travel in the mountains and valleys that form it. Some more demanding, others like the Paseo del Oca a pleasant itinerary, partly conditioned, that from the beautiful town of Oña runs through the gorge of the Horadada. Following the course of the river and the old railway line that passed through here, we will be surrounded by the vertical walls that rise up before us.

The whims of nature make this place an incomparable enclave, as well as a border between Burgos and Alava. And it is to the vertiginous viewpoint from where you can contemplate the whimsical Jump of the Nervión to which we arrive, on this occasion, following the conditioned layout that crosses part of the Natural Monument of Mount Santiago, within the province of Burgos. While the spectacular waterfall pours its waters into the Canyon of Delika belonging to Alava. Waters that escape from their subterranean course to precipitate to the vacuum after days of intense rains or thaws.

The story goes, and some legends, that the Cid passed through these lands disputing some battles. Past times that left their mark and next to towns like Covarrubias or Lerma add their value to the one that already counts this route. A route through a natural space, home to numerous birds that find in the rocky walls that surround it, a magnificent home. A beautiful and simple hiking route that leads us through this gorge following the steps of the old road that since time immemorial joined the villages that sit on both sides of the Gorge of Mataviejas.

Combining a natural environment of great beauty with history, architectural heritage of notable importance and villages with all the charm that have Tobera, where this route runs, or the nearby Frias is an arduous task. The Walk of the Molinar allows us to cross Tobera, the town of the thousand cascades, while we submerge in the corners that we are finding to our step. Corners such as the roman-medieval bridge, the humilladero of Santo Cristo de los Remedios and the hermitage of Santa María de la Hoz, other of the treasures offered by this route.

Entering the depths of a mine by putting yourself in the skin of the brave miners who worked there. Discovering how they lived, their history and the utensils they used, is another incentive to travel this route of the Grassland of Puras de Villafranca. A demanding hiking route through one of the few beech wood pastures in Spain that takes us to the same foot of the Mountain range of the Demand, to return us again to the Mining Complex of Puras de Villafranca.

The natural space of the Sabinares of Arlanza houses treasures that shine with their own light, as is the case of the Gorge the Yecla. A narrow passage carved by the tireless work of the river that flows through it, a short distance from another jewel, Santo Domingo de Silos. Advancing along the footbridges that cross it while crossing narrow passages observed from the top of the vertical walls that imprison us by the vultures that inhabit them, is an experience that in winter, when the Gorge of La Yecla is covered with ice and snow, becomes beautiful and complicated in almost equal parts.
