O Suburriba, is situated on a plain under the watchful eye of Santa Eufemia and El Picu Los Tayos, a short distance from the village of Cornellana, and is part of the parish of the same name, in the council of Salas. In Sobrerriba, through which the Primitive Way passes, there is evidence of the existence of a Roman villa, as archaeological remains were found in the place in the 19th century. It should be remembered that the Romans exploited a large gold vein in this area.
In Sobrerriba you can admire good examples of rural and typical Asturian architecture, hórreos or large bakeries, quintanas with their granaries and stables, farmhouses and surrounding all this beautiful chestnut forests..
The chestnut, so abundant in these parts, was a staple food for centuries. The great chestnut forests shaded the roads, and their fruits, the chestnuts, satiated the appetite of the walkers.
Legend has it that when the pilgrims of the Primitive Way, walkers or young men of the place, when crossing the chestnut grove and near the Nonaya river, were met with a xana, these of the first ones were a little surprised but when she began to give them conversation they relaxed and participated in it. When the time came, and with the confidence of the people, the xana asked them for favors and offered them riches in return, but these favors never came to fruition because there were always unforeseen events difficult to solve and the prize was never received. That's why when on the night of San Juan a Xana appears, he who sees it has to sing it "Xana, xaineta, dame tu riqueza, toma mi pobreza" (Xana, xaineta, give me your wealth, take my poverty).
