Surrounded by pilgrims who travel the Primitive Way, is located on a high in the Sierra Boudenaya or Bodenaya. It is a place that together with other villages and places form the parish of Bodenaya in the council of Salas. Under the protection of Las Penonas, rocky rocks in the western part of the Bodenaya mountain range, cattle breeding has always been very renowned in this locality. In another time this activity was combined with the transport of goods in mules.

To discover What to see in Bodenaya?

Following the route of the Primitive Way between Salas and Bodenaya, the first stretch coincides with the Nonaya Waterfall Path, inviting hiking and enjoying this beautiful natural environment. In Bodenaya, the parish church of Santa María has a curious portico that is completely enclosed, and near the cemetery you can also see a stone cross. It is striking that in some of the houses of Bodenaya there is a forna, cylindrical protrusion, it is the oven where bread was baked before.

Traditions

In Bodenaya it is traditionally called to the roads or interior highways that communicate with the places and villages of the parish, Camín de Misa, because it was the route that the parishioners made to arrive at the church.

In the Bodenaya mountain range the fog is typical, even in summer it can cover the whole environment.

The Legend

It is said that many of Madrid's famous aquadors came from this locality, an occupation that consisted of carrying water from fountains and distributing it through streets and homes.

Get to Bodenaya by car

Bodenaya is communicated through the national road N-634 on one side with Salas and Grado and on the other with La Espina, where also arrives the AS-216 from Tineo.

By bus

Bodenaya has a bus stop, which covers the route Oviedo-Cangas del Narcea-Pola de Allande, linking it with neighbouring towns such as Salas, La Espina or Tineo.
