Did you know that... Castañares

It is located in the valley of the river Arlanzón, upstream from the city of Burgos and near the river Pico. Castañares appears in the Census of Floridablanca of 1787 named as Villa belonging to the party of Burgos, which in turn formed the Intendancy with fourteen other parties during the period between 1785 and 1833. It was a place of lordship belonging first to the monastery of San Juan de Burgos and then went on to be exercised by the Count of Villariezo, who was the one who appointed the mayor of the town.

A little more history

At the end of the first third of the 19th century it became a municipality, called Castañares de Burgos, in the district of Burgos, belonging to the region of Castilla la Vieja, and then became part of the municipality of Villayuda. In January 1927, by Royal Order of the Ministry of the Interior, it was agreed that Castañares and Villayuda would be annexed to the municipality of Burgos as minor local entities.

To discover What to see in the Castañares?

Castañares had a hospital that seems to have had a great heritage, its location as recalled was at the entrance of the village coming from Ibeas. Its church, which is dedicated to San Quirce and Santa Julita, depends on the parish of Villayuda. Castañares enjoys a beautiful park called Fuentes Blancas where you can enjoy the peace of nature and the musicality of the river water.
