It is located in the moor of Leon and irrigated by the waters of the stream of the Valley of San Miguel. San Miguel del Camino is already mentioned in writings of the year 1177, where it is said that the inhabitants of the locality started to lend vassalage to the Monastery of San Marcos de León, and it is known that at that time the locality already had a hospital for pilgrims. It is part of the town council of Valverde de la Virgen.
The parish church of San Miguel del Camino kept an image of Santiago from the 15th century. This carving is now in the Museum of León. The church is dedicated to the Archangel Saint Michael, who is also the patron saint of the village.
San Miguel del Camino celebrates its patron saint fiestas in honour of Santa Lucia on 13 December. It also celebrates festivities at the end of August. In May it celebrates its patron saint, San Miguel.
In San Miguel del Camino there is a golf course where different Spanish championships are held.
Crossed by the N-120 between León-Astorga that serves as a connection to San Miguel del Camino, in addition to these two cities, with the nearby towns of Valcerde de la Virgen and Villadangos del Páramo.
