It is located to the south of the mountains that form Los Ancares, halfway between Villafranca del Bierzo, Pieros and Cacabelos. It is a small village, belonging to the municipality of Villafranca del Bierzo, surrounded by vineyards and sketches of chestnut trees, oaks, holm oaks, pines ... that lend their palette of colors to the landscape giving different shades depending on the time of year.
In Valtuille de Arriba, calm is only interrupted by the sound of nature. The village maintains its traditional architecture with constructions of stone and adobe, almost all in good condition, but even some ruinous buildings have a curious and picturesque appearance. In the locality, the visitor can take beautiful walks along its rugged trails discovering the flora and fauna that inhabits the area and trying to discover, among all this, the mycological species that populate its forests. The important oenological landscape of its surroundings is marked by numerous wineries that can be visited and that put the finishing touch to the route through this beautiful village.
Valtuille de Arribe celebrates Nuestra Señora de la Asunción and San Roque on August 15.
In many villages of the Bierzo the traditional magostos are celebrated. This festival, in which the tasty Bierzo chestnut is worshipped, takes place in November.
To get to Valtuille de Arriba we have to follow the LE-713 that joins Ponferrada with Villafranca del Bierzo, where we will find the accesses to this town in the stretch that goes from Cacabelos to Villafranca del Bierzo, more specifically shortly after passing through Pieros as we go towards Villafranca del Bierzo. These same roads connect Valtuille de Arriba with San Clemente and with Valtuille de Abajo among others.
From Valtuille de Arriba you have to go to the nearby Villafranca del Bierzo to access the daily bus service that connects it with Ponferrada, León and Lugo.
