Did you know that... Ferreiros

It forms a parish with the towns of Mirallos, A Pena and O Couto that belong to the Paradela council, located to the northeast of the same. In several Jacobean writings the importance of Ferreiros is already emphasized, where the pilgrims arranged their battered shoes or shoe their horses, also it is spoken of that here armor and utensils were made. The place was linked to the knights of the Order of San Juan, as there are references to the existence of a hospital run by them, so the locals were exempt from paying tribute to the king but if it had to do the commander of Portomarín. Very close to Ferreiros is Mirallos, whose name some think derives from "beautiful view" and soon arrives at A Pena and O Couto.

To discover What to see in Ferreiros?

The parish church of Santa María de Ferreiros is located in the flattest part of Mirallos. Although it is a simple temple, it is still a true gem of Romanesque architecture, with a beautiful façade. Built in the twelfth century was moved, stone by stone, from Ferreiros to its current location in Mirallos in the year 1790. The church is surrounded by the cemetery, a Galician characteristic, and in front of the temple's façade is the baptismal font that conserves religious symbols of the medieval period and was taken out of the church to adorn the place.

Curiosities

The ENIL, "natural area of local interest" of Loio-Ruxidoira extends through several parishes in the municipality of Paradela, including Ferreiros. Its interest is due to the great biodiversity of autochthonous species that it shelters in its forests, oaks, chestnuts or birches are in charge of populating them, some of them centenaries.

Get to Ferreiros by car

The LU-P-4203 that starts from Paradela on the road that connects Sarria with Portomarín is in charge of bringing us closer to some of the local roads that connect the different villages in the area, such as the one that from Veiga reaches the junction with the track that leads to Ferrerios, or in the surroundings of Francos from where there are roads that bring us closer to this junction. Other options are also to be found in Castrelo on the LU-P-4203, although it is now further away, from where there is a road that leads to Ferreiros after passing through A Pena and Mirallos. We also have a good number of small roads that emerge from the LU-P-4303, a road that runs north through this area of Lugo, and from which we can access Ferreiros passing before Fruxinde or San Cristovo among others.
