It is located in Inestrillas between Cervera del Río Alhama and Aguilar del Río Alhama. This Celtiberian settlement of Contrebia Leucade, later occupied by Romans and Visigoths, has a long history of almost 2000 years, losing its beginnings in the Early Iron Age and dilating until the late Middle Ages.
The site is the most spectacular and best preserved in La Rioja, as well as one of the most outstanding of the Celtiberian era in Spain, although the city may have had other names, which has come to us Contrebia Leucade etymologically would mean "White City". Its location, halfway between Graccurris and Numancia, gave it special importance by controlling one of the most direct communication routes between the Ebro Valley and the Meseta, especially in times of war, which is why one of the eminent reasons for its construction was undoubtedly strategic-defensive.
In the subject of defence, two phases can be observed, that of the Celtiberians, who apart from using natural cuts reinforced the weaker parts with moats and walls, and that of the Romans, with their imperial wall. The alignment of the houses with respect to the streets and the irregular relief and the use of the reduced space of some with the development of a construction in height, together with the important hydraulic system of storage, canalization and wells, makes us perceive how it was the daily life and the customs of its inhabitants.
In Contrebia Leucade there are three phenomena, the rupestrian spaces and urbanism, the hydraulic system and its natural and artificial defences.
