A little more history

In 1246 D. Alfonso López de Haro founds the Monastery of the Bernardas Nuns and donates to them the town of Herce. From then on, Herce became an abadengo's place, being the abbess the one who named ordinary mayor.

What to see in Herce?

Like the whole Hoya where the village is located, there are steep areas, hillocks and clay hills where numerous caves open up, many of them old pigeons known by the name of pharmacies of the Moors and which are the habitat of birds such as crows. It has a rich historical and cultural heritage, including a prehistoric settlement, Roman remains, both covered by vegetation. Rupestrian Caves, is a very peculiar phenomenon of several zones of La Rioja, there are several hypotheses and different typologies on its use, of religious type, monasteries, hermitages, of economic type, for diverse exploitations of animals, and of domestic type, houses-caves, storerooms to guard tools.
