It is located in the eastern part of La Rioja, in the basin of Cidacos, between the peña del Moro and San Salvador. Everything suggests that Herce was a village of the ancient Roman city of llurcis.
In 1246 D. Alfonso López de Haro founds the Monastery of the Bernardas Nuns and donates to them the town of Herce. From then on, Herce became an abadengo's place, being the abbess the one who named ordinary mayor.
Like the whole Hoya where the village is located, there are steep areas, hillocks and clay hills where numerous caves open up, many of them old pigeons known by the name of pharmacies of the Moors and which are the habitat of birds such as crows. It has a rich historical and cultural heritage, including a prehistoric settlement, Roman remains, both covered by vegetation. Rupestrian Caves, is a very peculiar phenomenon of several zones of La Rioja, there are several hypotheses and different typologies on its use, of religious type, monasteries, hermitages, of economic type, for diverse exploitations of animals, and of domestic type, houses-caves, storerooms to guard tools.
The tower- fort, to the northwest of the village, is easily accessible if you go up the road, but if you go up where you go when it is the pilgrimage to the hermitage of El Salvador and that climbs by the eastern rocks is much more complicated. Religious buildings and remains of civil heritage, which are a clear reflection of the importance of the people who inhabited the town. You can also join the Cidacos Greenway from anywhere in Herce.

In May the traditional pilgrimage to the Ermita de San Salvador, from the 18th century, is celebrated, although with numerous later restorations. In the mass before the meal of the brotherhood of all the pilgrims, bread and wine are blessed.
Typical sweet are the Hormigos, which are made with water, flour and sprinkled with syrup that are tasted by Santa Lucía on 13 December.

Herce is located 56 km from Logroño and its main access road is the LR-115 that joins it with Arnedo from which it is 6 km away and with Arnedillo.
Herce has an intercity bus service that connects it with nearby towns.
